End of the Night

This photoset has alot of shots I was happy with. This one in particular was the shot I set out to get from the beginning though. I love the vouyeristic feel of it and the framing. It’s as if we are hiding in the dark room watching yet hoping not to be seen or meet the same fate as Angelina has.

Dr. Loomis Office
As you can probably tell by now, I am a huge fan of John Carpenters HALLOWEEN, it’s my favorite film. While I have plenty of Michael Myers based images, I felt it was time to pay homage to his nemesis, Dr. Samuel Loomis played by the late and great Donald Pleasance. This photoset was a big part of my October photo celebration, and I really liked this image as a teaser shot, so I have included it as an introduction to these shots as I think it tells a story on its own.

Part of my enthusiasm to undertake this particular shoot was due to my friends resemblance to Dr. Loomis. This is my favorite image of the bunch because looking at it, I feel it can really be believed if you didnt know better that that is Donald Pleasance in that chair. The basic idea behind this shot was to create Dr. Loomis office and to try and show just how consumed he is with Michael. I think I did a decent job accomplishing that and I love the perspective in this shot. I did have a time constraint when creating the office look and I wish I had more time, I probably would have gotten a bit more elaborate with the wall display, etc. I thought about using PS to enhance it some and may do so in the future when boredom strikes, but for now it works and works well.

The thing about doing a photo based on a known actor is that if the person doesn’t look like said actor, then you are throwing off the whole thing and it becomes a bad version of cosplay. However in this instance, that was not the case. My friend did a great job at getting into character and playing up the emotions required which while not extremely complex, I still wanted him to convey some sort of remorse and anger towards everything that sits before him. This Office was particularly perfect casting in itself. It has been untouched for the most part since the 60’s/70’s and just fit my vision perfectly. Also want to make note of the childs drawings on the wall as they are intended to be Michaels drawings he had done as a child, Those were fun to draw while trying to get them to look as crude as they would need to be, yet still represent what they needed to from Michaels point of view.

The final shot in this series, If not for the behind the back shot this one would be my favorite, as I love how we get a clear view of the desk, booze, gun and the photos and research he is looking at. These shots overall are some of my current favorites and I am very proud of how they turned out. I feel they are a worthy way of honoring Donald Pleasance memory.

The Pumpkin King of Sleepy Hollow

This photo was taken this past October in the actual town of Sleepy Hollow, New York. The town takes its history and claim to fame very seriously. The Local police Shield features the Headless Horseman, as does the City Hall Municipal Building which displays a stained glass version of the infamous character. Even the local restaraunt is dubbed “The Horseman”. Sleepy Hollow also features one of the largest historic cemeteries in the United States. The town though really comes to life during the month of October, where its decorated accordingly and full of visitors from all over. These ”Pumpkin King” scarecrows are used quite prominently all over town during  are quite popular and I believe it was due to their inclusion in the opening credits of Tim Burtons “Sleepy Hollow”. This particular one in the photo above was my favorite and it had the perfect fall backdrop and eerie orange lighting. I included this photo as part of my “A TrueHorror October” celebration and it remains one of my favorite images I have captured during that month, even if it wasn’t set up by myself. It is the lone image on this site that I captured as is. I also included a photo of the New York State Landmark sign for the Headless Horseman bridge as a sort of bonus shot.

Sleepy Hollow continued

I have decided to include these photos as well, because Sleepy Hollow is not a place most people will be able to get to easily. So I figured I would share a few more shots I snapped while exploring the town to further illustrate just how proud they are of their heritage.

While You Were Sleeping
model: Max
Everyone hates puppets. I have always found them inherently creepy, especially a living puppet creeping around your room while you sleep. That was the idea here. You may recognize the dummys face, its actually a pretty cheap mask $4.00 mask from a Halloween store and isnt that impressive in person, but I knew if it was lit and shot right, it would work. As for the puppet itself, my nephew Max proved to be the perfect evil ventriloquist dummy to emerge from his place of rest. He was a natural.

Chainsaw

model: Tiffany Babcock

I had this Leatherface mask for quite a while waiting for the perfect moment to use it. One day I decided to head out to scout locations near the everglades and came across the perfect spot. This also provided me a chance to shoot with a longtime fan of my work in Tiffany. We had been discussing collaborating for quite sometime and this was the perfect opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. I have included here the original photo from my scouting drive, for you to compare with how I utilized the locale in the final shot. I also desaturated and dirtied up the image to give it that hazy hot Texas atmosphere I felt appropriate for the theme.

Texas Sunset

For a while I had been wanting to get a shot inspired by the famous final shot in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, this is that shot.

I, like most Horror movie aficiando’s, love vintage movie posters and have always admired the paramount ones with the white border in particular. This shot initially was just meant to be a demented murderous school girl emerging from a dark room where she undoubtedly dispatched an unsuspecting victim. It was only after the photo was shot that I thought about converting the image to a faded grungy 80’s Horror flick inspired poster. It was fun creating the credits especially and was able to implement alot of my friends who have helped me out before for most of them.

Dirty Laundry
model: Cataline Leigh
This photo was a blast to shoot, derived from the same session as the image posted up above. The model was definitely into it and really got into character. The fun part was splattering blood all over my apartment buildings laundry machines at 2am. I had debated leaving it on after I was done, but they would probably eventually figure out it was me. The sign on the back wall was added digitally after, replacing a very ugly and non creepy modern sign.

SAW 8 Teaser Poster
As previously stated, one of my favorite things to do is create movie posters. I think there is key ingredient to creating an effective movie poster and that is subtlety. The image should speak for itself first and foremost and give the user an idea of what it is they are looking at. In this instance I chose the striking image of the Jigsaw killer’s infamous puppet “Billy.” In this instance I feel the puppet is so well associated with the SAW franchise it was a no brainer to use it to promote the next film in the series.

Snowblind

model: Manuel Q.

As part of my A TrueHorror October celebration, this photo would not have been possible if not for the freak snowstorm up in NY on October 29th 2011. My brother quickly suggested we do a “The Shining” inspired shoot, so this is what we came up with. The story the Shining photo does not tell is just how cold it was and furious a snowstorm it was so I included a photo to give you an idea. Certainly not the norm for late October weather. Really need to thank my brother for helping me with this one, it was a treacherous walk up the hill with tree branches literally snapping and falling and threatening to down powerlines all around us. He was kind enough to take off his heavy coat in this freezing weather to get the right shot portraying Jack Torrances descent into the garden maze of the Overlook Hotel in the midst of a deadly blizzard.

Wicked
model: Victoria Plana
This Halloween inspired shoot was alot of fun to set up and work on. The Model Vicki was a natural at this sort of fun and colorful styled theme. Getting the right Halloween candy was essential as I didnt want any “brand name” stuff in the shot, so its all Candy Corn and these cheap coffin shaped chocolates and some eyeballs too. Thank goodness for dollar stores. I think its undeniable just how great she looks in that Witch hat to boot.
